1. What Data We Collect

Hora is a horary astrology chart calculator. It is designed to operate with minimal data collection. The following data types are involved:

What we do NOT collect:

No account or user registration
No email address or phone number
No device identifier (IDFA, IDFV, Android Advertising ID)
No analytics or event tracking (no Mixpanel, Amplitude, Firebase, or equivalent)
No crash reporting SDK (no Sentry or equivalent in MVP)
No advertising network integration
No biometric data

2. How We Use Your Data

Location is used exclusively to cast the horary chart at the precise moment your question is submitted. Traditional horary astrology requires the geographic coordinates of the querent at the exact time of asking. Your location is sent over HTTPS to astrology-api.io at the time of the request and is also saved in the local journal entry as a city name and coordinates for your own reference.

Question text is sent to astrology-api.io to classify and interpret your horary chart. It is also saved locally in your journal on-device for your review.

Timezone is captured from your device at the time of asking (IANA format, e.g., Europe/Moscow) and sent to astrology-api.io alongside your question. It is not stored independently on our servers.

Preferences (language, location source, zodiac type) are stored locally to personalize your experience. They are never transmitted to any server.

Install date and review prompt state are stored locally solely to determine when to show the in-app review prompt (after 3 readings and at least 7 days since install). No data is transmitted.

Personal API key, if supplied, is stored in your device's encrypted secure storage (SecureStore). It is sent only to astrology-api.io as a Bearer token on each chart request. It is never logged or transmitted to any other party.

3. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for advertising, marketing, or profiling.

The only third-party service that receives data from Hora is:

astrology-api.io (chart calculation provider)

Data sent per request: question text, latitude, longitude, timezone, timestamp
Purpose: horary chart calculation and AI interpretation
Retention by provider: we have no evidence that astrology-api.io retains per-request data beyond what is required to fulfill the API call. Refer to astrology-api.io's own privacy policy for authoritative information on their data handling practices.
Data is transmitted over HTTPS (TLS). No request data is cached or stored on our servers.

We have no backend of our own. There is no Hora server that receives, stores, or processes your data.

4. Data Retention and Deletion

All personal data generated by Hora is stored exclusively on your device.

Journal entries persist until you delete them. You can delete individual entries by swiping left on any journal item and confirming deletion. You can also use the Developer Mode (Settings → version label × 7 → PIN) to clear all entries at once.
Preferences persist until you change them in Settings or uninstall the app.
Uninstalling the app removes all locally stored data, including journal entries, preferences, install date, and your personal API key from SecureStore.
We cannot retrieve or delete your data on your behalf because we do not have access to it — it never leaves your device (except per-request data sent to astrology-api.io as described above).

5. Children's Privacy

Hora is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. The app is rated 4+ on the App Store and Everyone on Google Play, meaning the content contains no mature themes, but the app is designed for general audiences including adults seeking life guidance.

If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has used this app, no account or persistent personal data is stored on our servers. Uninstalling the app from the device removes all locally stored data.

6. Your Choices

Location permission: You can deny location access at any time via your device's Settings. Without location access, the app will use any manual city you have set in Settings, or will prompt you to set one.
Journal: You can delete any or all journal entries from within the app.
Language: You can change the app language at any time in Settings.
API key: You can add, edit, or remove your personal API key at any time in Settings.
Uninstall: Uninstalling the app removes all locally stored data completely.

7. Security

Your personal API key (if supplied) is stored using the platform's encrypted secure storage (iOS Keychain via Expo SecureStore, Android Keystore equivalent).
All communication with astrology-api.io occurs over HTTPS.
We do not log, transmit, or store your API key on any external server.
Journal data is stored in AsyncStorage on-device and is subject to the standard security protections of your device's operating system.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of Hora after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
